Master Bedroom

Finishing the master bedroom has been a bit of a milestone for us, the floor was concreted over a year ago and the walls rendered and plastered but the room was always "last on the list" as far as cosmetics were concerned. So is the whole cave project finished? No - but more on that later.

Finishing off...more floor tiles

The main bedroom is deep into the cave

Floor tiles down, notice the cans of beer on the floor (they make good markers) Dont step on these tiles until fully set! The wall on the left is a block wall rendered up to make it look more rustic like its untouched opposite, the reason for this was to add strength for the roof supporting RSJ,s (this room was in quite a state in 2004)

Ok so tiles are in place. One characteristic about caves is that no walls are ever level or square, in fact a room that looks square will in most cases be 3ft wider at one end than at the other - this leads to extra work and cutting of ceramics, fortunatly the block wall for us acted a guide. To finish off we used Yeso to blend in the gaps where the tiles met the walls creating an effect where the walls seem to "curl" under the new tiles

More yeso...

So job done at last! As always, a relaxing night in front of the bbq on the patio with a bottle of wine to reflect.. Next up - THE BIG DIG, a new project in full detail, we are extending...

Hi there. We're planning on moving to Spain next year, so you're part of my research. Thank you! I started at the beginning and I've just reached your first winter but have to stop for now. Snow in Andalucia? Coo! Well the latest looks really good - how civilised! I'll be back soon for another instalment. Mama D.

Hello again. Up to date now. You guys have done such a good job. Good for you! We're aiming for Valencia (less extreme climate) but I don't like the look of this abusos urbanisticos malarkey. Coming Wwoofing your way this summer, I think: you make toiling in the August sun sound so appealing..........
